The Orcas that live in the Puget Sound in Washington State are called Resident Orcas. They live almost the entire year in the waters off the Washington coast.

They are studied carefully by scientists. The Orcas of the Puget Sound have recently been added to the Endangered Species List.
These Orcas are viewed by thousands of tourists each year. As scientists become more aware of the distractions that boat traffic cause Orcas, more touring companies have chosen to use boats that make less underwater noise and less pollution and exhaust.
The Whale Museum is just one organization that is dedicated to the study and protection of the Resident Orcas. Our classroom is currently raising money to adopt an Orca!
